New Year =New Possibilities
What a year!
I’ve been reflecting on all that has happened in a year. What I’ve learned, the new amazing people I’ve met, the adventures I’ve had. all the different places I’ve lived. I want to thank all of you for your dedication to health and wellness. I have learned from each and every one of you.
Next year, I challenge all of you to really live. With no fear, with lightness, and with a renewed strength. Whatever your goals are for next year (because I know you already have a list like I told you to do!) don’t be afraid to take that risk. We all have something in the back of our minds we would like to accomplish. New Job, auditions, projects , relationships, promotion, fitness, relocating…….
Lets take the steps to put them into action.
GOOD LUCK!

” Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored, than to anything on which it is poured”

Happy Holidays
I want to wish everyone a safe, relaxing, calm, fun holiday season.
This is not a time to feel anxious, or stressed. What matters this year is the people that are importnt in your life. But even they can drive you crazy! Just take a breath, be thankful, and enjoy your time together.

East / West

There are many benefits for taking both eastern and western medicine
Often times western medicine can be toxic . I am a big fan of eastern medicine for a number of reasons-like its 5,000 year amazing track record!
I’m really interested in the power of your chi or energy. When western medicine had not helped me, I turned to acupuncture. I learned about meridians and life low. The first few times I went in, my reaction was so powerful I cried . NO, actually I sobbed
My doctor explained to me I had been suffocating emotions inside my body, creating blocks. Those energy blocks had a big effect on me and I was literally making myself sick. Does this sound familiar to you? Have you ever been in a bad period of your life that you get sick?
After a few weeks of acupuncture, herbal remedies, some serious soul searching (I’m working on meditation but I cant sit still for very long!) I was thinking so clearly I could see how I had dug myself into the hole I was in,understand my pain, and ready to take the steps necessary to change. My physical pain had gone away. My energy was back flowing like it should be.
What goes on in your mind body connection has a profound effect on you. If you are feeling like something is not right I encourage you to research eastern medicinal remedies. I promise acupuncture does not hurt
If you are feeling awesome I encourage you to work on improving yourself and never stop learning.

Basal Metablic Rate
Basal Metablic Rate, or BMR is how many calories you need a day to maintain normal body function.
This is how you calculate:
For males: BMR= 66+13.8(Weight in Kilograms) +5(Height in centimeters) -6.7(AGE)
For the ladies 655+9.6(weight in kilos) +1.8(height in centimeters) -4.7(age)
Complicated right? Well your are a fantastic machine so yes its complicated!
Heres an example because I want you to do this for yourself
Kate is 47, 5’6″ and weighs 140
thats 64 kilos and 168 centimeters
BMR= 655+9.6(64)+ 1.8(168) -4.7(47)
655+614+303-221=
1350 Calories!
This is the amount of calories Kate uses in a single day to function. If she doesn’t exercise anything over this will be most likely converted to fat. If she listens to her trainer Nikki and moves and eats well, she will be a calorie burning foxy lady
Remember-blinking your eyes to read this requires calories. Calories are energy.
Do this for yourself today

Easy Fitness Tip
WALK
yep thats it , just walk
when I was in New York last week I walked EVERYWHERE and it felt great
Its the easiest most tried and true way to get your cardio in for the day
For those of you who have to drive a lot, set aside some time in your day to walk to the places you can-like while running errands or going to a meeting-or just make sure to Always use the stairs if you are crunched for time
Get moving!

Ultra Longetivity
I just read a great book called ULTRA LONGEVITY
Its by Mark Liponis MD He is the Medical director for all the Canyon Ranch Spas-HELLO!
Yeah this dude knows his stuff! One of the main points I loved was he says “music soothes the soul”
That is so true
As I’m writing this I have some great mellow jazz music playing. Its making me happy and calm.
Another point he makes is how hostility, despair and anxiety wreck havoc on your immune system, thus bringing on premature aging
When Ism feeling anxious my stomach hurts and I break out. I realize I just have to make lists and tackle what is making me anxious
Go to the library and get this book I really liked it

Volunteer
I am a big fan of sharing the gifts you have.
Thats why I like to volunteer. It can be an hour a month or 2 hours a week-it doesnt matter
It really doesnt take a lot of time to feel the satisfaction that you are contributing to something bigger than you.
It can be at a food shelter, hospital, school, elderly home, after school program-anywhere
I am beginning to volunteer at the local hospital where I will probably be assigned reading to the elderly and taking care of flower delivery. At Sloan Kettering Cancer Center I did arts and crafts with the kids. It was an experience I will never forget.
You can go to volunteeramerica.org or simply google for your area.
Its a great thing to do, especially around the holidays

Hell No!
As most of you guys know I am writing a fitness/wellness book
In my research, I have read literally hundreds of books -some that I recommend
(Remember Martina Navratilova’s book I loved?)
Well at the library yesterday I came across a book called “My Answer is NO! (*** If thats OK with you)”
It’s about saying no and still feeling confident and assured of yourself . Its about maintaining boundaries in all aspects of your life
We juggle a lot in life, it seems more and more everyday. Careers, relationships, kids, money, it goes on and on. Have you ever felt like you are just a yes dispenser? You may want to please people but whats left for you?
This book addresses how to say NO and still hold your ground
Good luck and check it out
